AgriTalk 2019, a one-day seminar to promote urban agriculture was held recently at SM Downtown Premier in Cagayan de Oro City last May 24, 2019. The one-day workshop was free and was open to all urban agriculture enthusiast in Cagayan de Oro City as well as neighboring areas in Northern Mindanao. It started around 10 a.m. and ended around 5 p.m.
Experts shared three exciting topics in each field, and These are Square Foot Gardening, Mushroom Production, and Beekeeping. The Urban Square Foot Gardening was presented from the prestigious panel of Resource Persons or (RP) and is Ten Outstanding Farmers (TOFARM) Awardee who is Col. Honorio Cervantes of Pagatpat in this city. His 300 sq. meter farm devoted to square foot gardening has been a popular destination for agri-enthusiast. Col. Cervantes is a well-requested speaker all over the country. For the Beekeeping, it was presented by Dr. Maria Dulce Mostoles of the Central Bicol State University Regional Apiculture Center, who is an active advocate in the promotion of beekeeping using stingless bees.
The CDO AgriTalk leg is the second workshop that was conducted this year. The first AgriTalk happened in March at the SM Puerto Princesa Mall, Palawan where topics discussed also includes Beekeeping, Mushroom Production, and Hydroponics. Two more AgriTalks are scheduled to be conducted on the 3rd and 4th quarters of this year at Cebu City and Cavite.
AgriTalk 2019 is a collaboration of Manila Bulletin, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI), Bureau of Agriculture Research (BAR) and SM Corporation. ATI Northern Mindanao is a member-agency of NOMCAARD.
