It’s the first day of August today and also the start of the much-awaited event of the year in the city of Cagayan de Oro, the Higalaay Festival. The festival is held every month of August to commemorate the feast of the city patron saint, St. Agustine or commonly called Saint Augustine of Hippo who died August 28, 430 in the Hippo Regius now Annaba, Algeria, it’s feast day is August 28.

Higalaay Festival 2019

Here are the events and activities of the Higalaay Festival for the year 2019. It would be a very festive mood for the city with lots of activities to do. Here are the core events of the city:

Higalaay Agrifair and Garden Show starting August 1 to 31, 6th Higalaay Photo Contest – August 3 to 4, Kumbira 2019 – A Culinary Show and Competition – August 14 to 16, Kahimunan Regional Trade Fair – August 16 to 28, Kagay-an Festival Marathon on August 18.

Higalaay Choral Competition on August 22 at Centrio Mall. Cowboy Festival: The Annual Cagayan de Oro Horse Show on August 23 to 25 at Roa Property in CDO uptown. Miss Cagayan de Oro 2019 Coronation Night on August 24 at Limketkai Atrium. Cagayan de Oro Carnival Street Dance Competition on August 25 at Luna St. to Rodelsa Circle. 8th Mindanao Fashion Summit on August 26 to 28 at Ayala Centrio Mall. Higalaay Street Parade and Floats on August 27 at Rodelsa Circle to Limketkai Center. Centrio Mall Bisperas Fireworks on August 27 at Duaw Park.

Religious Procession on August 28 at Fernandez St.-Velez St.-Capistrano St. Fluvial Procession on the 28th at Macabalan to Duaw Park. SM Higalaay Pyro Festival on the 28th at Pueblo de Oro Business Park.

Special Feature Events

These events are also part of the festivities organized by private sectors. Philippine Superliga Spike on Tour CDO on August 10th at Limketkai and Corpus Christi Gym. Regional Travel Fair at Limketkai Rotunda on August 22 to 25. The 2nd Kagay-an Dragon Boat Fiesta Race on August 25 at Marcos Bridge.
